INSURANCE

At the present time I have “opted-out” of being listed as a provider for any insurance companies. My services are “private pay” only.

MEDICARE

I have “opted-out” of Medicare. This means that my services are not eligible in any way for Medicare reimbursement. Claims cannot be filed by me or my patients and Medicare will make no payments for claims filed. If you have a secondary insurer (NOT a “Medigap” policy), your insurer may pay as if they were the primary insurer. You will need to file these claims yourself.

PAYMENT

I prefer payments be made at each session. I can email you a statement after each session or at the end of the month. I have no preference either way, so it is up to you. Payment in full is expected at each session. If you have special circumstances and wish to make other arrangements, please let me know. I can take payment by check, by cash, by credit card – either in my office or via my on-line portal. The latter portal is secure, private and HIPPA compliant. The credit card option is made available when you initially submit your demographic information.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours, (week-day hours) before a scheduled appointment. I charge full fee for sessions that are not canceled within that time-frame. Your appointment time is reserved for you and you are responsible for payment for missed sessions. If you cancel within the 24-hour window and I can fill the timeslot with another patient, I will not charge you for the time. However, if I am unable to fill your slot with another patient, you remain responsible for payment for the session. I do not “double bill” for my time.

MANAGED CARE

I do not participate in any “closed panel” managed care plans. If your insurance plan has an “out of network” option (i.e. you are free to choose your own clinician) I will do all I can to provide you with appropriate documentation to help you obtain your benefits within the guidelines of ethical and professional practice.

What age ranges do you work with?

I work with adults who can make appointments for themselves. The age number is less important to me than the ability of a person to be able to make and execute choices for themselves.

Do you work with women? Men? Couples?

Both men and women find working with me comfortable and focused for their individual concerns. Couple work is limited to sessions where the partner is invited in by the client for support, clarification, and engagement in the client’s progress.

What do you do in sessions with clients?

Listen! I listen and then I ask questions. Mostly we have conversation, but it’s a conversation with a friend that might challenge, or maybe affirm, your thoughts and actions in a kind, loving, and caring way.

Do your clients receive assignments to work on between sessions??

Sometimes; but on a routine basis, assignments are limited. Occasionally, I make “suggestions” that I believe will help alleviate the issues we are addressing in our sessions.

What is your professional training and experience?

I hold a:

  • doctorate of psychology
  • a master of divinity
  • a bachelor of arts degree in religion and philosophy
  • an associate degree in medical technology (laboratory).

I am a:

  • North Carolina-certified pastoral psychotherapist
  • spiritual director
  • ordained minister
  • hospital and nursing home chaplain for a few years.

Of course, there are tons of life experience that I utilize in our work together.

What else does a client need to know to make the most out of working with you?

Clients need to know that I expect a high degree of commitment, open honesty, and tenacity in our working together toward the resolutions they seek.

FUN QUESTIONS

I see in your training that you are a pastor. Will you browbeat me with the Bible?

No way. I work with all faith systems, but my therapy work is grounded in psychology. Spirituality and religion are triggers for some people; if a client wants to bring questions or concerns about religious “stuff,” then we talk about it. I’m not here to “convert or save you.” If a client doesn’t bring it up or doesn’t want this as part of their therapy, then we leave it out of our sessions.

Of course, there are some people who come to me specifically for Spiritual Direction or to discuss religious topics. Then we jump in with both feet.

What brand of tissue do you use?

Whatever is priced in my budget. Typically, the BJ’s brand because I can buy it in bulk. I think it’s made by Kleenex.

Do you really drive that black truck?

Yes, indeed. You never know when you might need to haul something. I know I don’t look like a woman with a truck, but I am a country girl.
